According to #Blavity ; the initial Texas Teen competition was held in 1983, but this is the first year a Black woman has ever been crowned as an official winner. Edwards began the competition as “ 2018 Miss Houston USA “ and then later on leveled up towards the 2019 Miss Texas Teen USA pageant. Edwards succeeded against 100 girls, competing in categories such as interviewing, athletic wear, evening gown, and on-stage questioning.
