Police Brutality Victim Stephon Clark’s Children To Receive $2.4 Million Settlement!
It has been almost two years since the horrific murder of young father #StephonClark at the hands of #Sacramento police officials. Though there has been no conviction made, the city has finally reached a settlement agreement set to pay Clark’s two children $2.4 million.
According to #VibeMagazine ; court documents forwarded on Sept. 4th revealed the exact settlement amount reached. Sources have indicated that the money will be inserted into a trust fund for Clark’s two boy’s, who are currently only 2 and 5 years old.
Court documents read: “parties recently reached a settlement agreement which obligates defendants to pay to the plaintiffs and their attorneys a gross amount of $2.4 million,” It has been stated that $600,000 will be dished out for lawyer fees.
Clark’s son’s will receive the $2.4 million tax free money between the ages of 22 and 25 years old. Clark’s parents and grandparents had initially filed for a wrongful death law suit of $20 million dollars. That suit was officially settled in June and was identified as one portion closed of the legal battle against the city of Sacramento.
“The city of Sacramento has determined that this partial resolution of the lawsuit filed on behalf of Mr. Clark’s family is in the best interest of our community,” City Attorney Susana Alcala Wood states within a forwarded statement. “The agreement brings a key portion of the case to a conclusion, and avoids a potentially lengthy and expensive litigation process.”
Clark was originally gunned down in his grandparents backyard one night in March of 2018. Officials state they were responding to a call of a suspect breaking car windows within the neighborhood. Sacramento Police officers Terrence Mercadel and Jared Robinet chased Clark and ultimately killed him. Clark was later identified as innocent, however the officers responsible for Clark’s death were never convicted. The City’s District Attorney ruled that the two men “acted within the law.”
