#BlackTwitter Slams H & M Latest Campaign Featuring Young Black Model’s Natural Hair!
H&M has quite the history of not always appeasing to different cultures and ethnicities within their clothing campaigns. The latest debacle has caused a division within the #BlackCommunity stemming from a young black girl being featured with her hair within its natural state.
#YahooNews reports ; the young model’s photo appeared on both #twitter and #instagram of her in a floral print with her hair described as “ messy “ and “ not done” , pulled back into a ponytail. Sources have stated that celebrity stylist #VernonFrancois pointed the finger at professionals, stating that they were unable to properly care for the texture and styling of a black child’s hair.
“This beautiful young girl’s #kinky hair appears to have had very little to no attention yet all of her counterparts have clearly sat in front of someone who was more [than] capable of styling other hair textures,” states Francois within a caption on his Instagram. “My heart breaks imagining yet another girl from my community sitting in front of a mirror being ignored by the team around her, left to her own devices because someone didn’t know how to handle her texture.”
“It’s breathtaking to me that not one person looked at this shot and had the same reaction that the internet seems to be feeling since the campaign broke,” he continued. “THAT IS AN ISSUE.
Many social media users have came forward to address their outrage and share the pretenses of what black and brown models, actresses and singers are forced to deal with behind the scenes—while many other black women and men have come forward to state that they completely disagree.
