History has officially been made! International model and classic beauty #HalimaAden is the very first woman ever to appear in a #SportsIllustrated swim issue wearing a hijab and burkini and we couldn’t be more proud.

According to #Blavity Halima is no stranger to breaking barriers; as a teenager she became the first woman to wear a hijab in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant. Needless to say her career and vision has been up since then. The pageant was a stepping stone towards something bigger than she ever imagined. Taking her talents internationally and serving as an influencer globally.

“I keep thinking [back] to six-year-old me who, in this same country, was in a refugee camp,” states Halima to Sports Illustrated upon her home country of Kenya.

“So to grow up to live the American dream [and] to come back to Kenya and shoot for SI in the most beautiful parts of Kenya–I don’t think that’s a story that anybody could make up.”

Halima uses her ever growing platform as a  Somalian American model to advocate for Muslim women world wide. Halima has been featured in numerous high end fashion magazines and currently dominates prestigious runways within New York and London. Halima serves as the ideal representation of beauty, resilience and independence!!
