#BlackExcellence : Texas Teen With 6.9 GPA Creates History Becoming The First Black Valedictorian At Her High School!

This is the year of the #BlackGirlMagic y’all!! As ladies from all over the world are taking stands, breaking barriers, overcoming obstacles and most importantly not taking “ no “ for an answer! And we are here for it in every way possible!

According to #Blavity ; Texas high school senior Tobechukwu “Tobi” Phillips is creating history. Not only is she currently holding down a grade point average of 6.9; she will also be deemed the first black valedictorian at Alvin High School. Sources have indicated that Alvin’s High was originally founded in 1894 and officially underwent desegregation in 1964.

Phillips is set to attend the University of Texas on a full scholarship on behalf of the Forty Acre Scholarship program. It has been indicated that Phillips was one of 16 students chosen from a total of 4,000 applicants. Phillips states that maintaining a exemplary GPA is not easy but she knows that her accomplishments serve a higher purpose. 

 “It truly takes time management but more importantly acknowledging what you do it for. I know that I am no longer just representing myself,” states Phillips to An accompanied media outlet. “My biggest advice to other scholars of color is to truly adopt the mindset of Rosa Parks — ‘No.’ Do not conform to the stereotypes that have held us under thumbs for so long,”
